Joe Murphy - Former Librarian and Prominent Futurist
Since his time as a librarian at the prestigious Yale University in the late 2000s, Joseph (Joe) Murphy had built a career as a futurist with a particular focus on the library field. From 2011 until 2013, the former Science Librarian was a global keynote speaker and innovation facilitator, researching current trends and sharing his findings with decision makers in the library field through presentations and seminars delivered around the world as well as through articles and books. Joseph Murphy more recently served as a Director of Library Futures at Innovative Interfaces in the Bay Area, helping leadership and teams across the company, clients, and partners expand into new areas of operation. Joseph Murphy's expertise extends beyond library science, and he holds degrees and certificates in several fields. He completed his undergraduate studies in physics but has since earned a graduate degree in business administration from San Francisco State University and a master's degree in library and information science. His more recent studies have centered on futurism and design, and he has received a professional certificate in strategic foresight and a certificate course in human-centered design. Currently, he is working toward an MS in Foresight at the University of Houston. Joe's experience in academia, in a technology firm, and with clients in the public sector, as well as his combination of Librarian, Futurist, Manager, and scientist, prepared Joe Murphy to research, innovate, and lead change and strategy.
